Since Sam officially announced this on the front page, I thought I might as well make a thread about it.

What we are trying to do is to take Gustav Holst's orchestral composition "The Planets", and somehow rework it into danceable techno songs.

Although Sam and I are working on this, if you want to do something, go ahead! We're currently attempting Mars, the Bringer of War, which is annoying because of the 5/4 beat.

Just try dancing to 5/4.

Anyway, updates, news, and other assorted stuff will be posted in this thread. Leave any comments, questions about the project here below.

Once a sizeable chunk of Mars is completed, it will be posted here to download. Due to college work, that may be a while, but hopefully not too long.

Okay what is this cause I may be interested, as an aspiring musician myself I can probably help, or comment at least.

Sweet!

Well, in short we're attempting to rework this series of classical pieces by Gustav Holst into a set of techno songs. Now, here's the first one we're trying for:

http://www.imeem.com/classicalmusic3/music/PtAoM-82/berliner-philharmoniker-orchestra-1-mars-the-bringer-of/

The song is, you will note, actually in 5/4 time, making it a bit tricky to put a techno beat to. We still haven't decided/agreed on how we're going to change it up. Any suggestions are welcome, obviously.

That there is Saturn. My current thoughts on that one are to work the introduction, that very quiet bit, so that it sounds a bit like this one song by Yoko Kanno, done for the first Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series. I need to dig that one up... it's very quiet with a lot of background melodic bleeps and bloops.

Right now we're just drafting ideas, so if you have any suggestions let us know. And hey, if you feel like mixing or remixing what we come up with, that would be awesome too.

Once this gets on its feet a little more, I'm going to put up a feature in the main links, by the by.

Bingo!

Fish-Silent Cruise

That's the song in question. Imagine that sort of sound mixed over the beginning of Saturn, but maybe made a bit more danceable with a bass beat.

(hm, is the version I posted just dappy, or is there seriously nothing going on for the first minute or so of Saturn?)

So, AIT, is you in, or is you ain't?

Here, in the meantime, is the full selection of The Planets. Anyone, seriously anyone, can go ahead and post ideas for what you would like to see done with these, or cool thoughts as to how we could fiddle around with a particular song, you know. Whatever.

Ok guys, being nate and sam, we must actually sit down and have a bit of a roundtable about this. Perhaps over a pint in Italy Image But yeah, now that my brain is free from the oppressive machine-controlled outpost of totalitarian dystopia (also known as LCCC) I would like to lend you my brain in service of this noble cause of Technofication.

It would be interesting to listen to your input, Nick. Since I just discovered that the legal drinking age in Italy is 16
:boogie: :boogie: :boogie:
I might just have to take you up on that pint idea. ^_^

Bahaha. Who knows, I might even join in.

But yeah, I'm up for chatting it over while we chill out, if we get a chance.
