Atheism and Love

Does being an atheist or otherwise rationalist make better, stronger love possible? Does not believing in another shot make it more motivating to work hard to make your relationship work? Does it just make it easier to discard the bad ones? I realize I have some bias in talking about this, being in a very committed relationship with another atheist, but what are other people's experiences?

I've seen some utterly adorable (almost to point of sickening) very religious relationships last. But I've seen them also degenerate to point of basically roomies. Iono that religion would really make a difference, beyond the fact that religious fanatics tend not to have the mental capacity to REALLY work thru problems, especially if one of the partners isnt as fanatic.

Yeah, I'm not sure that there's really much of a correlation, besides things like how you behave sexually (which obviously can have an effect).
But, ideas of what is acceptable behavior can also come from personal morality (it might even primarily come from that) so even that is a little sketchy.

Here are two independent sources which show the same statistics for divorce rates, with atheists at the bottom, thank you very much.

I would say the effect is significant, especially since it's a 13% difference between evangelicals (the most ridiculously irrational of the denominations) and atheists.

Everyone else: Oh, wait, that's right, we'll just ignore the statistics, since ignoring the blatantly obvious is our specialty! Yay tradition!
